Saint Malo - historical & lively little town... (Brittany, France)

I have been here before and loved it. Now I was wondering if I would feel the same way...and I did.

This perfectly located walled little city offers everything you can ask for:
history, adventure (you can discover the city walls, at low tide you can walk to different little islands), good food, nice shops, enjoy the beaches, take a swim in the sea. There's a long seafront with several restaurants and cafes.

Some of the must-does in Saint Malo:

  • Walk along the seafront at the Sillon beach (plage du Sillon). We chose our hotel to be close to the sea so we can walk into the city.

Tip: the Brasserie du Sillon is located directly at the seafront and offers the most stunning sunset, good food and wines. Make sure you book a table in advance so you get one at the window. I can recommend the fish soup and the cheese selection.

  • You shouldn't even think about visiting Saint Malo without walking along "Les Remparts" (city-walls). It is even worth going more than once and at different times of the day. This way you can enjoy the different tides. Moreover the walk offers views of the city at a different angle.

Tip: take something to drink and sit on the city wall to enjoy the sunset !

  • The Fort National & the Tombeau de Chateubriand: you can walk over to the little island at low tide.

  • During summer you will find live music at different restaurants or cafes in town; normally the bands play at a different location each night. Check it out and book a table; it's very crowded.

Our hotel: Hotel la Villefromoy

The hotel is not inside town but next to the seafront. It is small with very clean, nice rooms, comfy beds and VERY helpful and nice staff. In the little garden you can relax or you take the few steps to the seafront and the beach.
