Hiking & Relaxing at Monte Tamaro / Botta church (Ticino, CH)

Monte Tamaro is yet another great spot in Ticino - close to lake Lugano and Lago Maggiore.

You can reach the funicular station either by car or from Lugano in approx. 15min. via train (every 30min.).

The funicular takes you up to 1500m where you will see another impressive church from Mario Botta.

Enjoy the sun from the restaurant terrace and have something to eat & drink.

For the hike to the top you need moderate to good condition (min. 80min. upwards); it's a stony path.

Botta fans will love the church Capella Santa Maria degli Angeli and how it is placed on the mountain. It offers beautiful views and many different staircases, corridors and view points. A very special building.

Other monuments / buildings by Mario Botta:
- Monte Generoso (Ticino) «Fiore di pietra»
- Restaurant Botta 3000 (Gstaad; Les Diablerets)
- Tour de Moron: 30m high tower offers great views (Moutier)
- Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista (Ticino; Valle Maggia): this little church is very special. With no windows all light comes from the glass roof. Its construction of white marble and granite offers an interesting interplay.

Restaurant Tar-tufo in Siena (Tuscany, Italy)

It was a nice coincidence for us to find the restaurant Tar-tufo in Siena.
After a great time strolling through the town we ended up having an even better dinner.

We decided to have the local tasting menu which was a very good choice. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant stylish with a cozy atmosphere.

Around Lake Lugano (Ticino, Switzerland)

The Italian part of Switzerland has so many great spots, offering mountains, lakes, beautiful parks and Italian cuisine.

Here I will try to put some of my favorite spots together which I discovered during my trips to the Luganer Lake.

GANDRIA - LUGANO
There is a nice walk along the lake which leads from the little (picturesque) village of Gandria back to Lugano.
If you like variety you should take the boat from Lugano to Gandria and walk back from there.
Make a break either in Gandria itself or in one of the restaurants along the way.

SAN SALVATORE
There's a cable car going up the mountain San Salvatore (starting in the Paradiso district).

How to get to the station: take a walk along the lake; in springtime you will see beautiful magnolia trees and flowers

From top of the mountain you have breathtaking views over the lake and the surrounding mountain ranges; a little chapel and a nice restaurant.

From here you can either go back by cable car or go on a hike down the hill. There are many different directions which lead you to parks (e.g. Parco San Grato), little villages like Carona. Everywhere you will find public transport.
If you want to take a longer hike I strongly recommend to go to Morcote via Carona. Take the bus from there. On your hike (depending on the path you take) there is much to discover....here are some impressions.

Once you arrive in MORCOTE take the time and have a look at Parco Scherrer; it's a public park divided in sections from all over the world: Japan, Greece, Italy,...and beautiful lake views.
Before going back you can grab a bite in one of the many good restaurants.

City Trip Belgrade (Serbia)

Who wonders whether a trip to Belgrade is worth it - definitely.

Of course, side streets are still not very nice looking, with uneven sidewalks, but the City has been rebuilt quite nicely after years of war and isolation.

This ancient city, the "White City" (translation of Beograd) shows many faces: the charm of two rivers (Danube and Sava);
ancient buildings/monuments preserved and restored as verstiges of the past; but also modernity.
Above all, the charm stems from the vibrant life in restaurants, bars and clubs throughout the city.

You can do so many different things. Here are some examples, which must not be missed:
- Kalemegdan Fortress and Park (with views over the rivers)
- Ada Ciganlija: swimming, sports, bars, etc., and often concerts
- Skadarlija: small street with many restaurants and live music
- Church of the Holy Mother of God (Crkva Ruzica)
- Various museums (Tesla, War, Aviation, Tito, etc.)
...and many more

Nice destination with good restaurant: Lauerzersee & Insel Schwanau (CH)

It's a great place for a Sunday afternoon excursion or for a nice meal.

This little island "Insel Schwanau" is situated in the Lauerzersee and offers a small castle ruin and a guild restaurant. You can also have a coffee in the afternoon with great views onto the lake and the surrounding mountains (e.g. Rigi, Mythen, etc.)

One of the highlights is the restaurant owned boat transfer.
Note: it is free when you have a restaurant reservation; otherwise you pay a small fee.
