If you're in Dublin and want to spend a day outside of town you should go to County Wicklow.
The Powerscourt Gardens are vast and beautiful, offering stunning vistas over the countryside. The gardens are divided into different parts. If you see the gardens you will understand the entrance fee (which is not cheap)....it's definitely worth it.
Some might remember the house and gardens from some movies. Strolling through the gardens, my friends and I were impressed by the huge trees (redwood, firs, etc.). I liked the Japanese gardens and the river walk. There is a pet cemetary (funny).
Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area!
TIP:
Afterwards you can enjoy coffee or tea at the Avoca Terrace Café which offers one of the most impressive views in Ireland. It's a bit pricy, but this is quite normal for such a location.
Attention:
The ticket to the gardens does not include the waterfall.
I can't say if it's worth paying - we didn't go.
Friends told me they have a food stand, including hot snacks which is also covered.
There is a children's playground behind the food stand.
