Big Sur (California, USA)

Some of my highlights driving down Highway 1 is the Big Sur. This part is approx. 150km Long (from Carmel to Ragged Pt). I am sure you know many spots from different movies, such as Basic Instinct.
You will see wildflowers, elephant seals, rugged coastline, redwoods, great beaches, etc.

Here are some of my favorite places along the way (from North to South):
  • Carmel Mission Church, also known as the Mission San Carlos Borroméo del río Carmelo. It's one of the 21 spanish missions along the california area. http://www.carmelmission.org/

  • Rocky Creek Bridge (great photo spot)
  • Bixby Bridge (great photo spot)

  • Hotel Ventana Big Sur
I didn't stay here, but if you want a special place you should consider it  (though it isn't really cheap).
We enjoyed some drinks on the great hotel terrace with beautiful views.
  • Nepenthe Restaurant / Cafe Kevah (same Location on different floors)
It's a wonderful place for a stop; relaxed atmosphere and fantastic views from the terraces.
I was there more than once: during coffee time (with great cake) and during lunch time we had good snacks.

  • Salmon Creek Falls
  • Ragged Point
