My favourite Mauritius spots (Mauritius)
Here are some of my favorite places on Mauritius Island.
- Hotel Shanti Maurice:
I just loved my Hotel and have put it first
- Souillac: Gris-gris et la Roche qui Pleure
The attraction is the breathtaking landscape. The volcanic cliffs that drop down into the sea. Waves come crashing in without obstruction. There will be no swimmers at the beach as the sea is far too dangerous.
- Pampelmousse: National Botanical GardenAlthough it is the most visited sight in Mauritius it is worth every minute.
Tip:
get yourself one of the local guides waiting close the entrance. He will not only Show you around but also tell you everything about plants, spices, etc.; and they are not expensive
- Grand Bassin:
The drive through the countryside is great and then you reach this place of spirituality. Today, the local Hindus make the pilgrimage to this holy lake which is located in the montains. The deep crater lake, the silence, the temples, and the area usually cloaked in fog give this sacred place a mystical atmosphere.
- Black River Canyon:
This is the most mountainous and most beautiful area of Mauritius. If you have Transport take in some great views of the canyon and the Alexandra Falls.
- La Vanille Nature Park (South):
This jungle feeling that arises in this very well-kept park is awesome. To see the giant tortoises close up (and stroke) was great.
- Chamarel:
Again, very touristic, but worth going if you are on an island tour. Close Chamarel (South-west) are two very interesting sights. The "Vallée des Couleurs", an unusual natural phenomenon and the Chamarel falls, the highest falls on the island in beautiful surroundings.
