Hotel Pousada de Óbidos (Obidos, Portugal)

"A gem that is worth a visit"

We were lucky to stay during the medieval festival in Obidos. The whole town wase therefore very lively ... except our beautiful hideaway, our Castelo.

On our Arrival we had some difficulties; the entire city was closed because of the festival. A nice Portuguese helped us to find the tourist center (right at the entrance to the old town), from where we called the Castelo and someone for was sent for our luggage (we prefered to walk).

We checked in and enjoyed a coffee on the terrace overlooking the entire Old Town afterwards. An absolute dream.

Room:
Though our room was a little small it was comfortable and had a very spacious bathroom. Nothing was missing: a safe, air conditioning, cable TV, water. It was situated to the beautiful courtyard and therefore very quiet.

Restaurant:
Since we stayed only one night we preferred to eat in the City. But we enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. There was everything you could want; if something was missing, you just had to ask.

Negative:
For us not a problem, but could be problematic for others: many stairs, uneven and no lift (as is customary in old castles).

There may be problems in winter with an old building like this. Certainly not everything is perfectly isolated. In summer this is all the more enjoyable; the thick walls keep the heat out.

Conclusion:
We enjoyed our stay and found that this was a highlight of our Pousada tour in Portugal.
It's not suitable for tourists who expect "standard" rooms and reserved ambiente; for sure it is the right place for lovers of culture and history!

TIP:
  • Go for a walk on the city wall. It's a great experience (not for small Kids)
  • Wander through the little streets and shops
  • Taste the delicious local liqueur named Ginja
  • Good for 1-2 nights
